Lately I've had this desire to write. I started with a pen and a journal, and that's awesome. I REALLY love it, but it's not really helping anyone. It just sits in my room. There's a possibility that one day I'll publish it... but as of right now no one really cares to read about my life.
If I'm gonna have a place to write down my thoughts, post about cool studies, upcoming Trinity stuff, etc... then I want it to be accessable for everyone. SO on TOP of doing the podcast every week, I'm going to start posting a written blog every Friday. This will recap the week, all the cool stuff I've learned, and everything I'm doing personally. More of a what's Riley doing in his life currently, then all about Trinity, even though Trinity stuff will be included.
Think of this as my journal that you get to peer into. A look behind the curtain if you will.
In all honesty this week was tough. My body is breaking down. See, I've decided to gear up for a 3-day fast. Yeah I know, 3 whole days, no food. I've done 2 and a half before. It was rough, but when I was done. I felt AMAZING. Not only does fasting help promote autophagy, but it also just gives your body a break. Your inflammation goes WAY down, your digestion stops, and your body just starts to repair itself. Truly amazing. There are tons of studies that show the benefits of fasting on cancer, anti-aging, metabolism, even muscle growth post fast, but this one is a really cool one so I'll leave it here for you:

Anways, so I'm gearing up for an 80 hour fast. 3 whole days. Naturally, when I'm doing this fast, building muscle isn't my goal. Trying to grow on no food doesn't make a lot of sense. Plus, with the lack of calories, lifting heavy my kill me, so I'm gonna avoid it. Mobility all day. Leading UP to this fast though, I've been ramping my volume up continuously. Currently, I'm training twice a day. 2 bodyparts, plus arms and abs. These workouts are BRUTAL, and are taxing me a lot.
To clear up what it looks like, here's a quick example:
- Bench Press
- Pull Ups
- Dumbbell Chest Flyes
- Barbell Rows
- Barbell Bicep Curls
- Skull Crushers
- Flat Dumbbell Bench Press
- Pull Ups
- Cable Crossovers
- Cable Row
- Dumbbell Curls
- Triceps Extensions
As you can see, that's not a small amount of volume. Then the next day, I hit legs and shoulders, then I repeat. I want to make something clear. This is NOT how I train normally, and not how I would reccoemnd anyone train on a daily basis. However, since I AM taking a week off, I may as well ramp my volume up as high as I can before I de-load, and see if I can reap some benefits of these crazy workouts.
I won't lie, I'm enjoying it. I'm eating like a savage, and crushing the gym. Recovery has been on my mind like crazy too. Tons of sauna time and sleep in order to build my body up.
After my fast, I'll return to a lower volume level, and also focus more on my short term goal of squatting 405lbs by my birthday in January.
In other news, this week was Halloween. Not really my favourite holiday, in my opinion just a buffer before Christmas, but I know a lot of people love it. I did take a picture with some pumpkins.
That was a fun day. We went apple picking. Honestly, I really like this time of year, but halloween isn't really my style. I feel like theirs too much pressure to have fun. It's like new years, or st. patricks day. All these party holidays ruin the night becuase theirs this REQUIREMENT to have fun, and it never lives up to the hype. Maybe I'm cynical... I don't know. I just never have as much fun as I could. This year was no different. I hope YOU had a better time than I did, and if you did, tell me to shut up and that Halloween is awesome. What do I know?
